Abstract

This case study explores the use of Business Model Innovation (BMI) to help managers in the electric bus manufacturing industry address complexities, complementarities and see the interdependencies between different parts of the Business Model. It utilises the following tools; the Business Model Canvas (BMC), Causal Loop Diagram (CLD), and Scenario Development (SD) to improve strategic planning and decision-making. The case study company is a electric city bus manufacturer, serves as the case study, providing empirical evidence on the effectiveness of these tools. The research finds that these tools offer structured overviews, visualise interdependencies, and prepare for various future scenarios, thus enhancing strategic clarity and future readiness. The study contributes to the BMI literature by presenting a practical framework for managing BMI in dynamic industries, highlighting the importance of continuous improvement, data-driven decision-making, and communication. The findings highlighted that this method requires thorough training for employees, as some models need more detailed explanations. Overall, the method aids in overseeing the consequences for the organisation and, through its systematic steps and checks, leads to the identification of additional BMI solutions. This research offers valuable insights for managers seeking to drive growth and maintain competitiveness in the evolving electric bus manufacturing sector.
