Abstract

Digital transformation is a complex change which closes the gap between the internal and external environment by the means of technology. For many organisations maturing in digital transformations is a serious challenge. Organisation member involvement is considered a success factor of digital transformation by many researchers. Only limited research has been done on the involvement of organisation members in digital transformations. This study focuses on how organisation member involvement can be understood in digital transformation in logistical processes by applying qualitative and quantitative research methods. The study utilises triangulation by applying qualitative and quantitative research methods. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that organisation members find it important to be involved in the digital transformation. The involvement may be limited to passive or active involvement. Whereas passive involvement should be a given in digital transformation, active involvement leads to a better chance of success in the digital transformation. Moreover, the findings indicate a difference in involvement depending on the hierarchical position an organisation member has. For example, managers are more often actively involved, than employees. More mature organisations utilise active involvement to smoothen the digital transformation.
