dc.description.abstractThis study replicates the study of Perlow (1999) that is published in the article: The Time Famine: Towards a Sociology of Work Time. In this study the work and time use of teachers at a University of Applied Science are investigated, in order to investigate whether the time famine is a problem for teachers and if so, what are the causes for this. The time famine can be referred to as a ‘’feeling of having too much to do and not enough time to do it’’ (Perlow, 1999, p.57). Since this is a replication study, the same data sources as in the study of Perlow (1999) were used to collect the data, which includes observing, interviewing, shadowing and tracking logs. After all the data was gathered, deductive coding, hermeneutic analysis, open coding and pattern matching were used to analyse the data. The analysis and interpretation of the results result in a vicious cycle that causes and perpetuates the time famine for teachers at a University of Applied Science. Therefore, there can be concluded that the time famine is a problem that persist at the HAN. This time famine in caused by the vicious cycle that is presented in the figure below. These causes differ from the causes that Perlow (1999) found in her research.en_US
