Abstract

This thesis seeks to analyse the differences and similarities between early twentieth-century comparisons between the British and Roman empires and between comparisons between America and Rome that were drawn during the Bush Jr. presidency. My analysis of these comparisons will not just focus on the political preferences of the people who made them, but also on their content and with what purpose in mind this was given shape.
