Abstract

AI chatbots are driving transformative changes across diverse industries, reshaping the landscape of work processes. Particularly within the healthcare sector, these AI chatbots play an important role by offering initial support to patients trying to adopt healthier habits, such as the cessation of smoking (Fadhil et al. ,2019). Despite the great advancements in AI technology and computing power, it has been found that these virtual assistants occasionally produce responses tinged with traces of stereotypical language (Cao et al. 2022). This corpus study delved into the persona generation by ChatGPT, specifically exploring how smokers and non-smokers are stereotypically portrayed based on their education levels and willingness to quit smoking. Through an examination of 1000 generated personas, the present study focused on texts that explicitly mentioned both education and willingness to quit smoking. Carried out in November 2023 using ChatGPT-3.5, the findings revealed a trend of ChatGPT to generate more smokers with lower education levels compared to those holding higher educational backgrounds.
