Abstract

The aim of this research was to look into the combination of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Arti cial Intelligence (AI) to improve data quality. A theoretical research was conducted to determine in what cases the approach should be RPA, AI, both or neither, where mainly the com- bination of features of the issue is leading. In addition, it was researched what it takes to combine RPA and AI, both technically and organisationally, which resulted in recommended steps to sys- tematically solve data (quality) issues, including choosing the approach. The recommendations were further supplemented by insights from a Proof of Concept (PoC) on the speci c issue of auto- matically detecting collaterals that are rented out without the bank knowing it. The results showed the potential of combining RPA and AI, under the condition that the reliability of the results can be proven and a proper dataset is available in terms of enough known examples of possible values to train and test on and enough variables to base the prediction on. If these conditions are not met, an investment should be made in additional research on AI techniques that use less known examples in combination with methods to explain the results.
