Abstract

This study aims to determine the institutional and practical efficacy of green and blue infrastructure (GBI) within Dutch city centers. It examines the Dutch institutional and political context (IPC) to determine drivers and barriers that urban planners and practitioners might encounter when trying to implement GBI into their cities. Next to this, the study uses a case-study (Nijmegen) to determine whether GBI implementations can have the desired effects with spatial limitations that are a quality of many Dutch city centers. These two efficacy trajectories combined are used to answer the overarching question of how effective GBI can be implemented into Dutch city centers.
