Abstract

This thesis is about employee-driven innovation. Employee-driven innovation is a kind of innovation. It uses the input of non-R&D employees for the innovation processes within the organization. Via a mixed method study, which consisted of a quantitative and qualitative part, different relationships are investigated. First, the effect of EDI on process and product innovation is investigated. However, also the relationship between EDI, R&D and product innovation is investigated. The quantitative results show that EDI has a positive effect on process innovation and radical product innovation, but not on incremental product innovation. Also, the interaction between EDI and R&D was not significant for incremental and radical product innovation. However, for radical product innovation the variables separately, so EDI and R&D, were significant. The qualitative analysis however, did saw a positive relation between EDI and incremental product innovation. After the analysis, several recommendations are made. First of all, organizations should do more internal collaborations. Also, organizations should make time available for employees to take part in the innovation processes and finally, employees overall should get more involved in the innovation processes the organizations are conducting. Overall, this study advances the understanding of employee-driven innovation.
