dc.description.abstractSpeech-language therapy for aphasia after stroke is usually provided to survivors of stroke with comorbid aphasia. Much research has already been done on different parameters of aphasia therapy. Nevertheless, the current clinical practices of speech-language therapists (SLTs) globally appear heterogeneous and we do not have sufficient insight into the state is of therapy provided to people with aphasia (PWA) after stroke. To gain more insight in the way aphasia therapy is organised in Europe the Collaboration of Aphasia Trialists (CATs) initiated the distribution of a survey to SLTs in different countries about various parameters that influence the therapy, such as treatment approach, frequency, duration, and availability. Within the scope of this thesis the survey was distributed to additional countries in order to add responses to the existing CATs database. The results were contrasted to the evidence-based Dutch guideline for speech therapy after stroke (Berns et al., 2015). The results show a heterogeneity in clinical practices in different regions in Europe, and therapy is not always evidence-based. The importance of international research and an international guideline is highlighted.
