Het Klimaatverbond has developed a bottom-up planning tool called the Wijksafari in an attempt to improve heat adaptation in the Netherlands. With this method they want to put the issue on the map, while at the same time make a difference on the ground for the people that need it. The tool has multiple goals that should be accomplished by bringing residents and professionals together in a new type of planning environment. The current thesis aims to find what can be learned from such a new tool by analysing its design and its achieved outcomes. The main question that is put forward to do this is: What could be learned from the innovative method of the Wijksafari regarding planning against heat in vulnerable neighbourhoods, and the development of collaborative, participatory tools to do so? The results show that the tool in its current form is very successful in fulfilling its goals that have a local focus. Also, it was found that the developer of a tool can alter elements of the design to steer the outcomes in the direction that is desired. Hence, the Safari illustrates the possibilities of creative new bottom-up planning methods for heat adaptation.en_US
