| dc.description.abstract | From a factual standpoint, nuclear energy is a low-carbon energy source that is able to supply consistent and reliable energy to meet the global demands. It is economically viable in the long run and scores well in safety despite the widely known nuclear accidents. From a deontological perspective, renewables may have more credibility, but given the limitation of time, our actual duties override our prima facie duties and nuclear energy is justified by yielding the greatest balance of prima facie rightness. Through a consequentialist framework too, nuclear power can be justified by producing the total net good. This paper analyzes the factual and moral viability of fossil fuels, renewable energy, and nuclear power, in order to defend nuclear power production. | |
