Abstract
This study addressed the question how the relationship between episodic future thinking
(EFT) and procrastination is affected by avoidance coping (AC). It was hypothesized that AC
would mediate the positive relationship between EFT and procrastination. To investigate this,
78 students were invited to imagine multiple future events and to fill in some questionnaires.
Subsequently, the answers of 77 students were examined. The results indicated that EFT was
not related to procrastination. EFT was not related to AC. Furthermore, there was no
correlation between AC and procrastination. Therefore, no mediation between the factors was
determined. This was contrary to expectations. Thus, the hypotheses of the study could not be
confirmed. However, the outcome of this study might not be representative for the general
population, since the sample mainly consisted of female undergraduate psychology students.
