Abstract
This paper assesses to what extent and why religion determines if damaging activities to the environment are considered to be morally wrong. It focuses specifically on Dominionism and Stewardship perspectives in Christianity, including their links to anthropocentrism. It is concluded that Dominionism, contrary to Stewardship perspectives, will generally result in considering environmental damaging activities as not being morally wrong, aligning with an anthropocentric framework. A short discussion of atheism will be presented, so that it can be used as a benchmark to assess the importance a religious framework has on determining moral positions towards environmental damaging behaviour. Finally, this paper investigates the links between Christianity and politics to understand the broader impacts the above perspectives have on environmental
policies.
