Gender and Josephus: A comparison of gender roles in the Jewish War.

Abstract

Josephus is an important source for Jewish history, mainly regarding the Jewish War fought against Rome. In his work "the Jewish War", Josephus describes the history of the Jewish people from the second century BC until the around 70 AD. In the narrative of this work, women are described in various ways. This thesis looks at these descriptions and analyses the various reasons why women are described the way they are by Josephus.
