Abstract

In recent years, Boards of Directors have become more gender diverse. The purpose of this research is to get a better understanding of whether gender diversity in the Board of Directors affects the post-performance of acquisitions. In this research, the following research question is answered: What is the effect of gender diversity in the Board of Directors on the post-performance of acquisitions and how is this moderated by national gender equality? Data from Zephyr and Thomson Reuters Eikon database are gathered to create a sample with the necessary data to test the hypotheses. An event study has been executed to assess the acquisition performance. After that, a multiple linear regression analysis and robustness checks are performed to find the results for this research. The results indicate that gender diversity in the Board of Directors does not have an effect on the post-performance of acquisitions. In addition, for the moderation effect of national gender equality can be concluded that there is no unambiguously significant evidence that it has a negative moderation role on the main effect. Due to inconsistencies in the results and other research with contradicting results, these findings had to be interpreted with caution.
