Abstract

This thesis explores how Moroccan migrant entrepreneurs in the Netherlands experience the institutional support that is meant to help them start and grow their businesses. While entrepreneurship is often promoted as a way for migrants to become economically independent, many support programs do not fully match the realities of these entrepreneurs. Policies often take a uniform approach, ignoring differences in background, needs, and goals. Through indepth interviews, this study gives voice to Moroccan entrepreneurs and their experiences with business support in the Netherlands. The findings show that they often face challenges like bureaucracy, language barriers, and support that doesn’t always take their cultural background into account. At the same time, these entrepreneurs often rely on friends and community contacts to find solutions. This thesis offers new insights into how institutional support programs can better align with the expectations and needs of Moroccan migrant entrepreneurs. This thesis contributes to ongoing discussions about inclusion, entrepreneurship, integration, and provides practical recommendations for policymakers and support organisations who aim to make entrepreneurship more accessible for all.
