Abstract
This Bachelor’s Thesis will study the reception of men writing women and women writing women in the British Metamodernist Novels. This will be achieved by analysing reviews of the novels: How to Be Both by Ali Smith, NW by Zadie Smith, Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro, and Ian McEwan’s The Children Act. Where the reviews written by professional and amateur reviewers alike, on Reddit, Goodreads and in Newspapers will be analysed by a combination of Close Reading and Distant Reading, while especially focussing on the gender elements in the aforementioned novels as well as the related terms in these corpora of reviews that came forward via the use of the Distant Reading tool Voyant Tools.
