dc.description.abstractCurrently three policy arrangements are used to deal with climate change: circular economy, climate adaptation and energy transition. They require coordination as climate change is becoming more “wicked”, leading to fragmentation between the policy arrangements. This study primarily aimed to find barriers and conditions for climate policy coordination within the Southwest Delta, fitting within the dimensions of the Policy Arrangement Approach. Within the discourses dimension; shared problem definitions, belief systems and objectives need to be accomplished, and common approaches. Within the actors dimension; a varying actor constellation, coordinated interaction patterns, more co-operation and strong leadership roles are crucial. Sufficient financial, knowledge, technological, personal and authoritative capacity are needed within the resources/power dimension. Also, willingness to develop knowledge, knowledge exchange, political and decision-making power, loss of autonomy and a shared distribution of responsibilities are needed. Within the ‘rules of the game’ dimension; formal institutional arrangements, common procedures and a united political culture are necessary. The current level of coordination is low within the Southwest Delta, which means most of the above presented conditions are therefore found as barriers for climate policy coordination within the Southwest Delta. Practical recommendations are therefore given, which are the use of intermediaries and a project-based approach.en_US
