Abstract

Schools of management are motivated to enhance their contribution to societal challenges. Due to the growing demands from external stakeholders upon schools of management to help provide solutions for societal challenges, the need for responsible management education is bigger than ever. However, schools of management lack operationalization principles to comply with these demands. This thesis proposes a framework based on transdisciplinarity, transformative learning and reflexivity literature to advance responsible management education within schools of management. Through transdisciplinary practices, which integrate knowledge across disciplines (interdisciplinarity) as well as across sectors (intersectorality), students are exposed to alternative perspectives, enable the practice of moral reflexivity. The purpose of this thesis is to argue that through moral reflexivity, which is fundamentally concerned with questioning the assumptions and practices of both ourselves and others and thus provides a gateway to transformative learning, contributes to the development of responsible management education, encouraging more responsible, ethical and collaborative ways to manage organizations.
