Abstract

This thesis engages with John Wolf and Bruce LaBruce’s theories that camp has either morphed over the years due to queer assimilation into the contemporary heteronormative mainstream society, or died altogether. , Therefore, the aim of the research is to establish a positioning of camp in contemporary society via a literature review as well as to reify the findings via two case studies. The two case studies will be X2: X-Men United (2003) and Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022). These case studies will be analysed via a queer rhetoric analysis in hopes of answering the question: How has queer assimilation into the mainstream affected the subversive and political characteristics of contemporary camp?
