A Taste of Home: Exploring Identity and Nostalgia Through Cafe Maddy's Food Narratives

Abstract

This bachelor's thesis makes use of a theoretically informed close analysis of the @cafemaddy Instagram account, highlighting the crucial role that cultural food can play in personal and collective identity. Drawing on concepts of Homi K. Bhabha's cultural hybridity, Fabio Parasecoli's gastronativism and Svetlana Boym's nostalgia, this analysis fits into broader discourses of food media, identity politics, and digital memory, revealing the complex ways diasporic identities are performed and consumed online.
