Abstract
The objective of this research is to contribute to a sustainable development of Costa Rica by
analysing the possibilities of the implementation of payments for ecosystem services (PES) in the Rio
Tempisque Basin. This research investigated the possibility of a successful implementation of PES in
the Rio Tempisque Basin by doing a case study in three villages in this region, namely Rosario, Puerto
Humo and Pozo de Agua.
