Abstract

This thesis examines how animation can depict trauma and political allegory through a case study of the animated film The Wolf House (2018). It discusses the existing literature on animation as a medium that can convey psychological and historical experiences, focusing on trauma, memory, fear, body representation, and narrative structure. Moreover, it analyses political allegory and its expression in animation within the historical context of The Wolf House, particularly Colonia Dignidad and Chile’s political past. This work identifies visual elements that convey traumatic space, bodily transformation, and material as well as narrative disintegration. Additionally, it examines how fairy tale motifs and symbols, such as animal imagery, become a means of conveying social exclusion. Ultimately, this thesis hypothesizes that animation, by transcending traditional film forms, allows for the complex representation of trauma and memory as well as the promotion of political sensitivity. Keywords: The Wolf House, Animation, Trauma and Memory, Colonia Dignidad, Political Allegory, Fairy Tale.
