| dc.description.abstract | The presence of sub-Saharan African migrants in Eastern European countries such as Romania is becoming more common than it used to be 10 years ago. The mainstream populist discourse present in numerous European countries is starting to catch on a segment of the Romanian public opinion, creating an altered and predefined perspective of such a complex phenomenon as migration. However, the stories of these people vary from students who later became asylum seekers to migrant workers that turned out into political refugees. Romania is often portrayed as a transit country, considering its geographical position but also the economic development. However, considering the mobility turn in social sciences, the attention is slowly shifting towards the dynamics of migrant movement. As a result, the thesis follows a critical approach to transit migration by presenting and reflecting upon the variety of personal migration stories collected in the spring of 2018. | en_US |
