Abstract
Over the course of his work, Slavoj Žižek has extensively engaged with the question of Christianity. In his most recent book, Christian Atheism, Žižek argues that Christianity is at its core an atheist religion and claims that the possibility of radical emancipatory action requires engaging with this concept of atheist Christianity. This paper explores the relationship between Žižek’s Christian Atheism and his other primary source of inspiration: Marx. It develops an account of Christian Atheism, relates Zizek to Marx’s critique of religion and argues that Zizek does not manage to convincingly demonstrate how Christianity and Marxism are related.
