Today’s Dutch urban planning has to deal with less options for new developments due to national planning policies and at the same time has to facilitate a growing group of people who want to live in the already densely populated cities. To find solutions for these challenges, new forms of planning need to be implemented in practice. One of these solutions is to implement mixed-use development on run-down urban industrial estates. This research paper looks into three case areas (Binckhorst The Hague, Cruquius-island Amsterdam and Havenkwartier Deventer) and aims to find the success factors of the chosen strategies for the mixed-use development that takes place in these districts. The goal of this research paper is to formulate recommendations for more successful mixing of uses in order to contribute to the Dutch housing task and to add scientific knowledge about innovative planning strategies.en_US
