The world is becoming more and more connected. In healthcare patients go to different healthcare organisations in order to receive treatment for their illnesses. In order to support effective healthcare, this patient data has to be registered at and transferred to different healthcare organisations. Interoperability is a key element in order to support effective healthcare. A lack of interoperability can cause for current routines, with regard to patient data exchange, to be perceived as not effective anymore. It can cause for a process in which a new routine has to be formed. The forming of a new routine, caused by interoperability, can be done by the use of workarounds. In this research were interviews conducted with nine ICT-employees alongside observations. After analysing the interviews with the use of the grounded theory approach, the creation of the feasible workaround came to light. The feasible workaround is a mental process of examining efficient and effective workarounds, based on implicit criteria, and accepting them into the best and most optimal, feasible workaround. The feasible workaround is a precursor of the ostensive routine and could eventually become a routine in order to deal with the lack of interoperability.en_US
