Abstract
This study explores the concept of creating meaningful care spaces for people with dementia in their everyday lives, with a specific focus on the DemenTalent intervention. The research analyzes the potential and limitations of establishing such spaces and meeting the social care needs of people with dementia. The theoretical framework emphasizes the significance of care spaces beyond the medical context and highlights the importance of everyday aspects of care. The research uses qualitative ethnographic methods that include participant observations and informal interviews. The findings suggest that the everydayness of a caring space is determined by its ordinary practices and individual responsibilities. Acceptance and the creation of safe havens contribute to a sense of normality and belonging, while interpersonal relationships and individual compositions play a significant role in creating a caring environment. Though the DemenTalent intervention connects seniors with dementia to themselves, others, and their environment, it has limitations in covering all aspects of normality and expanding connections beyond the intervention. The study recommends creating opportunities for giving and receiving care, following the principles of care ethics, and fostering meaningful everyday care spaces. The effectiveness of such spaces depends on individual interactions and political decisions, such as establishing a dementia-friendly city.
