Abstract
The aim of this Master’s thesis research was to retrieve insights to formulate an answer on the research question: “How does creativity influence the process of job crafting by migrant entrepreneurs in the Netherlands and Germany?” The research has been performed with the use of a qualitative research method, where ten interviews have been conducted for two groups with five ‘Dutch’ migrant entrepreneurs and five ‘German’ migrant entrepreneurs. The interviews existed of one life story part and one semi-structured part about job crafting and creativity (in this research: one’s problem-solving ability). These interviews were analyzed using a thematic analysis by which all the interviews were transcribed and coded. Two themes for both interview groups were derived for the results. These results show ways of how creativity has an influence on job crafting for migrant entrepreneurs in both countries. Creativity influences job crafting by fostering adaptability for migrant entrepreneurs in both countries. It also enhances and influences the job satisfaction through aspects like flexibility and freedom. Additionally, creativity influences the development of certain skills that help migrant entrepreneurs to craft their job. A limitation of this research is that there are other factors that have an influence on creativity as well that are not considered. Future research could focus on these factors to gain even more extensive insights on this topic. This study provides insights for the development of training programs that are designed to enhance creative thinking and job crafting skills for migrant entrepreneurs.
