Abstract

This thesis explores queer dimensions in Radboud university’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policy and the way that staff and students influence and are influenced by these policies. It presents an exploratory research using interviews with queer student organizers and policy professionals, a content analysis on DEI policies at the university, and a survey and ethnographic fieldnotes on the Queer(ing) Radboud event that took place in September 2023. This will be regarded through theories on heteronormativity, queering and feelings of belonging that are contextualized in the workplace and place of study. The results show that queerness is implicitly and explicitly present in Radboud university’s DEI policy, but that this knowledge is not accessible to many people outside of a policy field. It was also found that community events, like Queer(ing) Radboud can help to improve LGBTQ+ staff and students’ feeling of belonging at the university.
