Abstract
This master's thesis analyzes the efficiency of the incentives used by Company X to attract a workforce that is ethnically diverse and investigates how these incentives translate into concrete results. It uses a mixed-method strategy that combines qualitative and quantitative investigations. Understanding how Company X's incentives fit within the internal organizational structure is the main goal of the qualitative analysis. The quantitative analysis looks at how white and non-white people are portrayed in Company X's photos to determine whether non-white people are portrayed less skillfully and frequently than their white counterparts. The examination of field notes identifies four main issues with Company X's diversity incentives. The lack of identification with people who are not white is the first issue. Second, Company X has a delicate situation with respect to diversity. Third, the corporation offers a variety of justifications for why it has failed to appeal to a broad audience. Last but not least, building a diverse workforce is challenging due to the selection process, particularly CV selection. Only 7.22% (N=54) of the 748 people represented in Company X's photographs are nonwhite, which is strong evidence of an uneven representation of non-white people. All of the sources that were examined, including the company's website, Instagram page, and advertising efforts, all exhibit this inconsistent representation. Intriguingly, despite the fact that there is a large difference between the distribution of non-white and white people in Company X's photographs, their jobs, attire, and locations do not differ significantly. This shows that Company X's images partially downplay the prominence of non-white people compared to their white counterparts. This analysis clarifies the difficulties with Company X's diversity incentives, emphasizing the need for improved sensitivity, identification, and correction of existing justifications. The results also highlight how crucial it is to address the unequal portrayal of non-white people in Company X's photographs and promote more inclusive and equitable visual representation inside the company.
