A broad consensus exists globally that the concept of sustainability must be applied in planning and designing a city and in developing urban growth, including its urban mobility. In this thesis, it is assumed that for a sustainable growth of a city, it must transform towards a sustainable mobility system as part of the urban planned growth of the city. To achieve this goal, it would be useful to employ the lessons offered in what we could consider the model cities of today in this field. The steps of the research are the following: First, we identify 10 model cities across the world with a mobility system that is considered a (relatively) sustainable city, with a policy of its urban mobility system. Secondly, we have elicited the strategies from the vision documents on city-wide mobility. Thirdly, we have assessed these mobility strategies to analyse what made these cities reputable in terms of planning and transforming their city-wide sustainable mobility system. Lastly, we juxtaposed these strategies with the draft policy for the city of Nusantara exposing the policy’s deficiencies and points for improvement. Hence, the research aims to draw lessons for Nusantara for planning its mobility system through a synthesis of the best strategies that are scholarly available today. From our data collected from 10 ‘example cities’, we conclude that citizen involvement and monitorization are essential. Keywords: Sustainability; Mobility; Urban growth; Vision documents; City of Nusantara.
