dc.description.abstract | In recent years, alternatives to housing such as co-housing have become more popular. Not only have citizens voiced their interest in co-housing; state authorities and market parties have as well. Due to the large range of support these latter actors may offer, one can identify a role for many to play in co-housing development. This has resulted in collaboration between civil society, state, and market. This study pertains an explorative comparative case study research into this role of institutional collaboration in co-housing development, in the cases of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Cologne, Germany. This study uses qualitative research methods and a pre-defined theoretical and conceptual framework to collect and analyze data. Through conducting document review and interviews with institutional actors involved, new insights were gained on the institutional actors involved in co-housing development in both cases, their specific actions, and the collaboration relationships between these actors. This research shows that the involvement of these actors and the relationships between them range from being very important and strong, to being less important and indirect. Despite this range, this study concludes that the role of collaboration between institutional actors in co-housing development within the two central cases in general is very important. | |
