Abstract

In the last several decades, the identities of industrial cities in North-America and WestEurope have faced enormous transformations. De-industrialization, urban networks, and globalization have turned cities into arenas of transformation. This thesis focuses on these three types of transformation. The main question in this research is: How did the urban identity of Post-industrial medium sized Western cities develop under the influence of economic, regional en global transformation processes?
