This thesis examines gender-inclusive community design, focusing on women's participation and representation in urban planning. Based on feminist urban theory, it studies how gender affects urban experiences and mobility, while advocating for inclusive, equitable, and sustainable urban transformation. The research explores "gender-sensitive planning" as the integration of gender perspectives in planning processes. The study analyses the SuperGuizza pilot project in Padua, Italy, an EU-funded initiative implementing a "superblock" design near a primary school to improve pedestrian safety. The methodology combines document analysis, stakeholder interviews, and feminist urbanism frameworks to assess community engagement and gender considerations. The research identifies key opportunities and challenges in implementing gender mainstreaming within urban design practices, with particular attention to collaborative methods for developing community spaces that address the requirements of women, caregivers, and underrepresented groups. It provides a conceptual framework for gender-inclusive urban transformation, offering actionable recommendations for planners to better integrate gender perspectives. While gender-aware policies are advancing, implementation faces barriers including limited participation and socio-political resistance. The study concludes that gender-inclusive, participatory approaches are crucial for creating equitable urban environments, especially considering post-COVID digital engagement.
