Abstract

The Forum of Augustus in Rome is examined as a potential example of Pierre Nora's "Lieux de Mémoire" and contrasted alongside Roman memory culture in general as well as focusing on the practice of promulgating "edited memory" in the Early Roman Empire and the Late Roman Republic.
