This research aims to provide insight into the role of organisational values in the partnerships of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in international development. It does so by analysing how the values of Dutch Christian NGO Woord & Daad (W&D) play a role in the initiation and sustainment of cooperation in a selection of their partnerships. Seven in-depth interviews with W&D its partners showed that a selection of W&D its values function as drivers in their partnership. The espoused and attributed Christian and people centred values of W&D serve as markers of a common identity, thereby aiding the initiation of a partnership. The shared and attributed values of trust and empowerment, serve to build trust and add value to a partner, thereby sustaining a partnership.
