Abstract
The aim of this study was to gain better insights into student experiences during the ECOTONOS game and enhance CQ education and teaching effectiveness. The area of educational experiential learning in CQ has been overlooked. The ECOTONOS game was played at Radboud University as an experiential learning method to enhance CQ among students. Student reflection reports were used to derive data from. Results show that majority of the students experienced critical incidents because of cultural identification problems and they perceived themselves to be lacking cultural knowledge. Furthermore, time-pressure resulted in students being engaged to a lesser extent in relational interactions, and more focused on task related activities. CQ education can be improved by a stronger focus on creating awareness of the importance of the metacognitive aspect, including mindfulness and empathy.
