Abstract

This research assessed the relation between the frequency of working from home (WFH) and job satisfaction, emotional exhaustion, detachment from work, and work-life balance. It was conducted in collaboration with AXXCON management consultancy. To answer the research question a cross-sectional online study was conducted (N=150). It was hypothesized that as the time spent WFH per week increases, the level of job satisfaction will increase (H1), the level of emotional exhaustion will decrease (H2), the level of detachment from work will decrease (H3) and the level of work-life balance will decrease (H4). The findings do not support the hypotheses, as no significant relations between WFH and the four outcome variables were found. Future research is needed to assess individual and contextual factors influencing the relation between WFH and employee well-being. It is recommended that companies recognize and acknowledge the diverse preferences and needs of their employees, by establishing guidelines and offering support.
