| dc.description.abstract | The current business as usual prospect reveals that the Dutch building sector will exceed their CO2 budget in 2027. Furthermore, the Dutch house building system needs to increase their rate of production. Building with biobased building materials is identified as a promising method to reduce both emissions and to increase the rate of production. This research aims to gain an insight into the current barriers and opportunities influencing the adoption process of biobased building materials. This led to the following main research question: ‘What are the current barriers and opportunities for the adoption of biobased building materials in the Dutch house building system?’ This research used an exploratory qualitative research design. The data includes 11 respondents and 4 policy documents which were inductively and deductively coded. The interviewees were selected based on an information-oriented selection process using the innovation adoption process by Van Oorschot et al. (2020) and the actor network by Geels (2002). This research identified several hindering factors namely: lack of long-term unambiguous policy, in-built biases in the MPG and a lackluster biobased chain development. Stimulating factors are: hybrid construction, local policy, development of the biobased production chain by intermediary companies and increasing the green loan program. | |
