Abstract

This thesis looks into 'ungrammatically' juxtaposed clauses witnessed among youngsters in urban regions of the Netherlands. Instead of producing a subordinate complement clause (asymmetric clause system) - known to be a difficult feature in Dutch SLA - they omit the conjunction 'dat' and use the same word order in the juxtaposed clause as in the main clause (symmetric clause system). Both sociolinguistic as processing related factors are tested in finding new insights into this grammatical phenomenon with the help of spoken data of the Roots of Ethnolect database.
