Wolf-Women: Femininity And Abjection in Ginger Snaps

Abstract

This thesis discusses the ways in which the cult horror film Ginger Snaps represents the first menstruation, the menarche. The transformation of teenager Ginger Fitzegerald into a werewolf coincides with her first period. The film's use of abjection and its portrayal of patriarchal power structures, along with its ambiguous ending are analysed using the framework of feminist film analysis.
