| dc.description.abstract | Although the number of traditional crime victims in the Netherlands has been falling in recent years, the number of victims of cybercrime has significantly increased (CBS, 2020). Dutch adolescents between 12 and 25 years old are the prime target of this type of crime. A majority of them are victims of fraudulent online transactions, a type of cybercrime that occurs when the victim purchases a good online but does not receive the product. In their efforts to prevent this crime, different stakeholders, such as police and the government, have tried to decrease the number of adolescent victims. However, the role of educational institutions in preventing adolescents from becoming a victim of fraudulent online transactions is lacking in current literature. This study takes a system perspective to examine the stated problem and utilizing a system dynamics approach in Group Model Building (GMB), a method to visualize mental models of relevant stakeholders on the issue of interest. The focus is on identifying how two groups of stakeholders; the experts (e.g. teacher and police) and the potential victims (Dutch adolescents) may have different understandings (i.e. mental models) of the subject and the role of educational institutions. | en_US |
