Abstract
This thesis is a quantitative study that examines the extent to which an organization's position in a so-called international trade network influences economic performance. Applied specifically to the underexposed context of emerging football clubs in the Middle East, this thesis further discusses the specific key variables of a strong position in a trade network: Centrality, Embeddedness and Structural constraint. Applied in this 'newer' context, it has been examined to what extent this can be important in explaining the economic performances of these football clubs. The theoretical expectations were that all three aspects would be of enormous importance. By developing a theoretical framework, This thesis showed that in this specific context the influence of a strong position in a trade network has been overestimated and had little influence on economic performances, conflicting with previous literature. In addition, it was shown that other external factors may play a much greater role in influencing economic performances. Due to these contradictions with already published literature, this thesis will hopefully be a valuable contribution to the literature.
