dc.description.abstract | Dutch people are known for their high command of English language, but pronunciation is a skill that is neglected and can cause communicative problems no matter how appropriately someone uses the grammar or written discourse. It should be intensively practised from a very young age to eliminate the interference with Dutch and technology via CAPT systems enriched with ASR tools can positively contribute to it. The current thesis analyses speech data from the MPC corpus of Dutch secondary school pupils in combination with digital tools, such as Praat and SCTK, and discovers pronunciation errors that are compared to related studies of Dutch pupils and adults. The results show reliability and they are in congruence with related ones about school pupils, but also partially deviant from adults. The outcome can be used for further improvements of algorithms concerning automatic error detection and comprehension of the pronunciation barriers pupils face. | |
