The ongoing pressure and challenges faced by the marriage institution and its doctrine of indissolubility and, the non-stop increasing number of Church members seeking for the nullity of their failed marriages, became the fundamental reasons behind the Church’s commitment to support, interpret and clarify the supreme law and the nullity process established by the 1917 and 1983 Codes of Canon Law. Two of the recent documents that are particularly connected to the norms related to the judicial process declaring the nullity of marriage are: Dignitas Connubii (2005), as an Instruction that renovated the Code, offering an authentic interpretation of the canons related to the nullity process; and The Motu Proprio Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus (2015), that came to reform the canons of the Code of Canon Law pertaining to cases regarding the nullity of marriage. With their introduced changes and novelties both documents have in different ways affected the nullity process designed and established by the 1983 Code.en_US
