This research is aimed at examining the way Greek-English bilinguals perceive emotional expression in both Greek and English with special reference to language, type of emotion and immersion in an English-speaking environment. The objective was to see if speakers interpret emotional expressions differently amongst their mother tongue (L1) as compared to a second language (L2), and whether immersion plays into this perception.Participants’ responses were analyzed using a 2x2x4 mixed-design ANOVA which tested the effects of language (Greek vs. English), immersion (immersed/non-immersed) and emotion type (endearments, compliments, reprimands, insults).
