dc.description.abstractThe present study investigated to what extent the context-specificness of neighborhoods influences the citizens' attitudes and roles in the heat based on the income level, age, and legal ownership status of residents as well as their house age and type. The five neighborhoods were chosen as case areas in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. A field survey (N=95) was taken place in the case neighborhoods and two experts on the heat transition in Nijmegen were approached for an interview. Research findings were obtained through Microsoft Excel for quantitative data analysis and Atlas.ti computer program for qualitative data analysis. Research findings concluded that income level is the main element influencing the citizens’ participation/support/contribution to the local heat transition in Nijmegen. Also, it was found that the capacity of neighborhoods for achieving to realize the heat transition is explicitly dependent on the different physical and social characteristics that a neighborhood embodies. Lastly, the research unearthed the existing barriers and opportunities of the local heat transition in Nijmegen. In this context, the research findings concluded that some of the barriers can be eliminated or eased by the existence of appropriate methods determined based on the neighborhood’s physical and social characteristics.en_US
