Beyond Modernism and Primitivism: an alternative point of view on the Roman economy.

Abstract

Beyond Modernism and Primitivism delves into the debate between modernists and primitivists regarding the nature of the Roman economic system. How well - developed was the Roman economic system? Did they have a simple consumption based economy or did they have knowledge of economic processes, knowledge they used to increase profits and productivity in a way comparable to our modern economic system? By analysing ancient source material and evidence this is the question that this paper tries to answer.
