Abstract
This study investigated whether on the basis of acoustic measurements types of dysarthria can be determined similar to perceptive judgments and if acoustic measurements show any relation to the severity within the different types of dysarthria. In this study ‘Praat’ was used for the acoustic measurements of 47 video recordings regarding temporal, melodic and dynamic aspects of speech. The results show that dysarthric patients are slower and more variable in their speech than reference values, but none of the variables has shown to be sensitive for a distinction between types of dysarthria. However, a significant relationship was found regarding the severity of dysarthria. Despite the lack of significant effects, this research is one of the few studies were types of dysarthria were compared with each other in order to distinguish speech characteristics.
